Become A Successful CEO: Time Management - Track Time
Chief Executive Officers are the masterminds of the company. A successful CEO gets the absolute most from resources available and creating masterpieces. Not everyone in the world can be a CEO of a world-class company, but everyone can and should become the CEO of their world-class life. This is article two of the series. To get the most out of this series start at the beginning. Are you ready to get the absolute most from resources available and create a masterpiece of a life?
What resources are available to you to maximize? Number one is time. How are CEOs managing their time? Well, first they have come to understand the scarcity of time. Time is one resource that cannot be substituted. You cannot earn more time in a day let alone a lifetime. Because of this you need to take advantage of your time by knowing where it is going in the first place. You cannot correct your lack of efficiency with this precious resource if you have no idea where it goes. You must begin here. You don’t need to track every second or minute but you can easily audit your time into 10-minute segments. My suggestion is to set a timer on your phone every half hour preferably, but at the most every hour to assess where your time was spent. You may discover that you are on your phone way more than you think. You may discover you chat with friends, family or co-workers more than you have been aware. You may discover you surf the internet more than you work on your computer. You may even discover some of your poor spending habits are a result of looking too much. Audit every 10 minutes of your time between timers. List what you were doing and categorize it as productive or wasteful. Wasteful items are anything done that could be replaced with something better. Productive items are tasks that accomplish goals, plans or prioritized to-dos. Take action today!
In the next article, we will discuss how to best use this new knowledge of where your time is being spent. With it, you can set yourself up to succeed. Many people start their journey of time management with daily planning. This is a terrible place to start. It is like trying to set a financial budget without knowing where your money is going. It will NOT work. You cannot be realistic with your financial budget nor your time management if you skip the step of knowing where the resource is currently being spent. Please do not skip this action because it is too foundational for your success.
You can actively track your time using apps such as Toggl or Clockify if needed.
